Zaf's Cannons enjoy solid pre-season battle with Nunawading City

Updated: Jul 13, 2019

Zaf's Cannons & Nunawading City FC faced off in a pre-season friendly at Jack Edwards Reserve which was played in four 25 min quarters. Zaf's Cannons got off to a great start with relentless attacking pressure that saw Charlie snap a beautiful goal into the top right corner to take a 1-0 lead into the 1st Quarter break. The 2nd Quarter saw Nunawading City turn the tables on the home side with some slick counter attacks that saw the visitors take a 1-2 lead before Georgia found an equalizer with a beautifully taken goal just outside the box. Nunawading City then took a slim 3-2 half time lead with a nicely orchestrated attacking move. In the 3rd Quarter Zaf's Cannons increased the tempo on attack from the restart and captain Marcus struck a nice goal to take the score to 3-all (see video below) and then the home side went in front for the 2nd time after their forwards pressured Nunawading City's defensive into an unforced error and Jimmy capitalized to give the Cannons a 4-3 lead. The away side hit back straight shortly after however, to make it 4-4 at the 3rd Quarter break.

In the 4th and final quarter, Nunawading City struck twice in quick succession to take the score out to 4-6 before the home side came back with a 2nd goal to Georgia after more relentless pressure on the Nunawading City defenders who struggled to get the ball out of their half. Zaf's Cannons kept the waves of attack coming late in the game but the away side managed to hold Oakleigh out and the final score read 5-6 to the visitors in what was an very entertaining pre-season contest. Next up Zaf's Cannons will play an Oakleigh U10s side in a Training Match Friendly on Tuesday at Jack Edwards Reserve.
