Zaf’s Cannons break 4 game losing streak v Oakleigh rivals

Updated: Aug 19, 2019

Zaf’s Cannons fought out a gutsy 2-1 victory over Costa’s U11s Cannons in the 3rd Oakleigh rivalry game in difficult windy conditions at Jack Edwards Reserve today.

Missing Georgia, Nichola, Mikey, Diego & Ethan through holidays & sickness, Zaf’s Cannons had to dig deep in a tightly contested 1st half in which both teams had their chances to score but weren't able to capitalise.

After a scoreless first half, Zaf’s Cannons went 1-0 up shortly after halftime when Luke beat 3 defenders to slam home his 2nd goal of the 2019 season.

Several minutes later, Zaf’s Cannons doubled their lead when Charlie assisted Luke to his 2nd goal of the match for a 2-0 lead.

Costa’s Cannons pegged a goal back to make it 2-1 and set up an intense final ten minutes of the match.

Zaf’s Cannons held on to win their 9th match of the season.

After the match, Coach Zaf praised his team on a hard fought win. "Very proud of every single player. Everyone worked hard with amazing pressure. Great team work with quality from our defense and all the way to the top" Well done team! ⚽️🔵⚪️🔵⚪️

Next weekend, the team head to Caulfield to play South Melbourne in what will be the first of back to back matches to finish off the season.
