Zaf’s Cannons, minus Coach Zaf who sustained a back injury over the weekend, lost 3-0 to a very sharp and clinical Eastern Lions side at Gardner’s Creek Reserve this morning.
Oakleigh, who were very flat in the first half, struggled to get any continuity in attack going and conceded an early goal from an indirect free kick only minutes into the game after an Eastern Lions attacker who brought down just outside the box.
Both teams defended sternly throughout the first half with the home team creating more chances on goal than the Cannons.
Zaf’s Cannons came out playing better attacking football in the 2nd half with slicker passing but a costly error during a goal kick gifted the ball back to the home side who took the opportunity with both hands, extending the Eastern Lions lead to 2-0 with only 10 mins to go.
The home side then put the match well beyond reach with a 3rd goal with a nice counter attacking move.
The match ended 3-0 which is the first time the Cannons have been unable to score in their 12 League matches so far.
Next weekend, Zaf’s Cannons are back home at Davies Reserve to snap a two match losing streak when they face Ashburton Utd SC on Sunday.
Heads up Cannons! Keep believing! ⚽️🔵⚪️💪
