Post match hand shakes with Langwarrin after hard fought 1-1 draw

In what was a very tough first proper season tournament experience for Zaf's Cannons, Oakleigh finished with a draw & two losses in Group A of the 2019 Victory Cup at Brandon Park Reserve.

The Boys fought hard in a very tough & physical 1-all draw with Langwarrin SC in their opening Group A match. The Cannons had more shots at goal but frustratingly couldn't find that 2nd goal in the 2nd half to take all 3 points.

In their 2nd match v Bulleen Lions, which followed directly after, Zaf's Cannons put in another superb first half effort, going in 0-0 at halftime against one of the tournament favourites. However a costly error in failing clearing the ball at the back midway through the 2nd half saw Bulleen pounce on their opportunity and break the deadlock. From there, Bulleen ran away with match, winning 4-0 to advance to the knockout stages.

Disappointment after 4-0 loss to Bulleen Lions

In their final Group match, Zaf's Cannons required a 2-0 win over Dandenong City SC (Alan) to advance to the knockouts along side Bulleen in Group A. Unfortunately it was a very flat performance from the Cannons. After going in at 0-0 at halftime, the Cannons conceded early in the 2nd half from a crucial defensive miscued pass and eventually faded to a 2-0 loss to Dandenong City to bow out of the tournament along side Dandenong City in Group A.

Bulleen Lions & Langwarrin SC both advanced to the Quarter-Finals, with Langwarrin SC eventually losing to West Melbourne in the 1st Semi-Final while the Bulleen Lions, as expected, went on to win the 2019 Victory Cup, beating West Melbourne in the Final.
