Cannons Cruise to Four Goal Victory at Monbulk

Updated: Jul 1, 2019

Zaf's U11s Oakleigh Cannons traveled out to the Monbulk Regional Soccer Facility this morning to take on the Monbulk Rangers Wolverines U11s for the 2nd time this season. The away side came out in the first half immediately on the front foot with a lot of attacking raids but were denied by some great saves by the Monbulk Rangers goal keeper. After a disallowed goal in the 16th minute of the game, Zaf's Cannons finally broke the dead lock after a brilliant assist by Midfielder Nicholas finding Winger Charlie on the corner post who tapped in his 3rd goal of the 2019 season and Oakleigh were up 1-0 after 18 minutes. The home side nearly equalized two minutes later but Cannons Goal Keeper Athan denied the Monbulk striker with a brilliant low save and the follow up was struck wide of the right post.

At half time the scoreline read 1-0 to the Cannons, despite the visitors holding most of the possession & creating far more chances than their opposition. In the 2nd half, the attacking onslaught continued and it only took until the 32nd minute for Zaf's Cannons to double lead their lead after Midfielder Alex put away his 3rd goal of the 2019 season after a brilliant cross into the box from Winger Charlie.

Then only two minutes later, Winger Mikey extended the visitors lead to 3-0 with a nicely placed goal into the bottom left corner.

Zaf's Cannons finished off a fine performance with a well deserved 4th goal after Striker Jimmy got the ball to Winger Charlie who nicely struck the ball into the back of the net and his 2nd goal of the match.

At full time Zaf's U11s Oakleigh Cannons collected their 8th win of the season with a comfortable 4-0 victory and now look forward to the Mazenod Victory hosted VICTORY CUP tournament next Sunday.
